Liver Cancer

Liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) is a cancer arising from the liver. It is also known as primary liver cancer or hepatoma. The majority of primary liver cancers (over 90 to 95%) arises from liver cells, which make up 80% of liver tissue, and is called hepatocellular cancer or carcinoma.

Obesity Surgery

The LAP BAND System is an adjustable silicone elastomer band that is surgically placed around the stomach. The band is designed to limit food intake. When you eat less food your body draws on its own fat reserves to get the energy it needs. The result is you lose weight.

Circumcision

Pancreatic Cancer

The pancreas is a spongy, tube-shaped organ about 15 cm long. It is located in the back of the abdomen, behind the stomach. The head of the pancreas is on the right side of the abdomen. It is connected to the duodenum, the upper end of the small intestine. The narrow end of the pancreas, called the tail, extends to the left side of the body.

Gall Bladder Cancer

The gallbladder is a pear shaped sac about the size of a golf ball that lies beneath the right side of the liver. Its main purpose is to collect and concentrate bile which is a natural agent fordissolving fats in the food we eat.

Hernia

The abdominal wall is a sheet of muscle to stop the organs of the abdomen (the intestines) from falling out. When a weakness or tear occurs in this muscle, part of the intestine bulges through and appears as a lump under the skin. In the past, hernias were often called ruptures. They are most common in the groin (inguinal hernias).

Liver Surgery

Evaluation and management of:

  • Benign liver conditions including benign tumours, abscesses, cysts.
  • Malignant liver tumours eg hepatocellular carcinoma, liver metastases, utilizing the latest French resectional techniques, and non-resectional techniques like radiofrequency ablation.
  • Stone disease of the gallbladder and biliary tree.
  • Benign and malignant conditions of the gallbladder and bile duct (including recurrent pyogenic cholangitis, cholangiocarcinomas and benign strictures).
Laparoscopic Surgery

General and advanced laparoscopic surgery including management of:

  • Gallstone disease
  • Diagnostic and staging laparoscopy for appendicectomies, colectomies and tumour evaluation
  • Minimally invasive management for obesity using the Lap-Band
  • Management of gastroesophageal reflux requiring laparoscopic fundoplication
General Surgery
  • General Surgery with special interest in hepatobiliary surgery , pancreatic surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery
  • Upper gastro-intestinal surgery (including cancers of the oesophagus and stomach)
  • Colorectal surgery ( including cancers of the colon, rectum, hemorrhoids and other perianal conditions)
  • Endocrine surgery ( including thyroid surgery and laparoscopic adrenelectomy for adrenal tumours)
  • Breast surgery
Outpatient Surgery

These are operations that can be done in the minor operating theatre within the clinic’s premises or as a day surgery procedure in Hospital.

These include:

  • Excision biopsy of skin lumps, breast lumps
  • Incision and drainage of skin abscesses
  • Ligation of piles / hemorrhoids
  • Circumcisions
  • Endoscopy procedures including gastroscopy for stomach ulcer/cancer
  • Colonoscopy for polyps, piles & cancer
Pancreatic Surgery

Evaluation and management of benign and malignant conditions of the pancreas. Utilizing the latest techniques in pancreatic resectional surgery

Dr Tay Khoon Hean
MBBS (Singapore), FRCS (Glasgow), FRCS (Edinburgh), FICS (USA) FAMS (General Surgery)

Dr Tay did his undergraduate medical education at the National University of Singapore graduating with MBBS in 1988. He subsequently obtained his surgical fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1995. He completed his Advanced Surgical Training in General Surgery in April 1998.
